Looking for opportunity! #OpentoWork MPCI Crop Insurance Agriculture
· Achieved cloud-based precision ag data ingestion by introducing Leaf.io with a team of talented individuals.
· Collaborated with team members across multiple departments in the development of policy dashboards to streamline agent experience in processing software. Focused on cloud-based services for more immediate intake.
· Led the end-to-end lifecycle of a risk management insurance product developed to enhance farmer insurance coverage with over 9,000 options in a single product. Allows full customization to individual farmers. During tenure, a 94% Combined Ratio spread over 14 states.
· Collaborated with AgriLogic Consulting to review the RMA replant payment for corn & soybeans. It was determined that the replant payments are one third of what the actual costs faced by growers. RMA plans to increase the replant payments for Crop Year 2026. This should improve the safety net and reduce the liability exposure of private product Standalone Replant Option.
· RMA 508(h) product lead for the Harvest Revenue Option (HRO) added the "higher of" Projected Price or Harvest Price to the Group Risk Plan (GRP). Currently, this is the Area Risk Protection Insurance (ARPI) insurance plan offering of RMA.
· Provided RMA the basis of geospatial FCI-33 High Risk Land maps and implemented the first HRL edit in processing system subsequently adopted by RMA. Due to our work, RMA discovered over $30 Million of unreported High Risk Land in a single state and was able to fund the digitization of all FCI-33 maps resulting in a significant advancement in program integrity.
· Collaborated with RMA and authored portions of the Crop Insurance Handbook including Agent of Record procedure and extended premium payment procedures for ITS (Ineligible Tracking System) eligibility.
· Presented in front of the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Ag Committee to champion improvements to legislatures for crop insurance.
· Introduced Guardian Plans to the crop-hail market place as a hail bundle product combining Companion Hail with DDC plans to provide maximum risk management against direct hail damage at a better value to growers.
· First in-the-field loss adjustment software for MPCI loss adjusters. Released in 1993, a 1,500% ROI was achieved, reduced errors by 93% in the first year of implementation. Computerized Loss Adjustment System (CLAS) evolved over the years including in-the-field receipt printers.
· First RMA-approved map-based Acreage Report
· Co-founder of AGFORCE Insurance Services, Inc. and CMK Technologies. AGFORCE was the MGA for NAU Country insurance starting in 1998. The combined efforts of leadership accomplished a growth of $0 of GWP to $1 Billion in 10 years. An immense accomplishment at the time with much lower commodity prices, fewer product offerings, a lower grower subsidy.
I continue to mentor young professionals I have worked with over the years to provide guidance, career advice, and expertise on crop insurance.
In our current world of hybrid and remote working, it is more difficult for tomorrow's leaders to have the mentorship required in the complex crop insurance business. I believe it is critical for leaders to make sure that they maintain connection with new talent even when you are no longer at the same organization.
I have a keen interest in emerging technology and possible applications to agriculture. AI will provide a new wave of opportunities as growers and companies use AI to decipher the data that is collected by and on behalf of the grower. How will AI allow us to mitigate risk on the farm? For insurance companies, how can we better assess risk by including additional data elements into our analytics: weather, elevation, aperture, soil type, growing degree days, moisture storage of soil, water management. Improved risk assessments can be shared with our growers that are on front lines facing the primary risk.
My roots in American agriculture drive my commitment to ensure that the crop insurance offerings available to America's farmers & ranchers provide value for the premiums that they pay. As stewards of the program, AIPs are the critical line of defense for both the farmer and the American tax payer. Program integrity is key for the continued success of Federal Crop Insurance (MPCI). Agents across the United States are dedicated to their friends and neighbors and expect the crop insurance company to provide the highest standard of services.
